Message from the president
May I extend a warm welcome to all our friends and visitors for the season 2009-2010.
In this my second year as President I hope that we can at least equal the success both on and off the field of last year.
Twelve months ago with many helpers we dug out the bottom touchline to lay heavy duty rubber matting which provides much better standing conditions for spectators and we now have new security fencing to try to minimise the effects of vandalism.
We are also indebted to Hanson Haigh for arranging the refurbishment the goal posts (no easy task!) and, of course, Peter Leighton for his enormous efforts on the grounds. Within the clubhouse we have an entirely new kitchen which will increase in house catering capabilities and the Club has made a major investment in a new boiler to ensure more efficient and reliable heating and hot water.
On the social side the Old Players’ and Supporters’ lunches have been well attended and the rather more formal President’s Lunches were total “sell outs” providing great entertainment to start a Saturday afternoon’s sport.
Last season we were privileged to watch what was arguably some of the best rugby seen at Broomfield in years and I thank coaches and players for their efforts.
The season ended on a high with the playoff game against Rossendale, a great day, but our defeat was a disappointment.
This season Chris Jones takes over as Head Coach and Richard Wheale continues as Club Captain, with James Wainwright as Vice Captain. We wish them well.
On a serious note can I ask all players and spectators to assist match officials by strictly following RFU regulations that state no more than four personnel from each team (including medical staff and replacement players) are permitted within the perimeter fencing of the pitch.
